The White House of Costa Rica
This vacation house is located along the remote Pacific Coastline north of the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. Famous for it’s pristine beaches, large surf, and occasional celebrity sightings, this location brought an opportunity to combine a modern aesthetic with the local “Tico style” of Costa Rica. The design included three cabanas, as well as a main beach house.
Drawing on the tropical aesthetics of Miami, Thailand, and Costa Rica, the construction is a uniform concrete grid with wood ceilings and frameless glass. The double height spaces and large overhangs are direct responses to the local climate conditions, of extreme heat and sun of the dry season, and the monsoon style rain of the rainy season. This design gives the tenant an indoor outdoor living experience in any weather condition.
